Some time ago Google bought GrandCentral and kept it as a seperate service but underneath they were integrating their systems to make GrandCentral more like a native Google service. GrandCentral developed a following especially among T-Mobile users since you could technically dial any number and connect through GrandCentral and thus you’ll receive free calling to almost anyone if your GrandCentral number was one of your faves.
Others though for example on Sprint and AT&T just wanted to be able to easily use their GrandCentral number as an outgoing number. That’s were GrandDialer came in, a free app that was written for multiple cell phones that allowed you to dial from your address book through a GrandCentral number. Everybody was happy but then Google finally integrated GrandCentral and is in the process of migrating everyone to the new Google Voice; which means GrandDialer no longer works but there’s a new iPhone app right around the corner. Just recently I got a hold of an iphone 3g so it was time to upgrade from my original 2g phone. Here’s the problem though, my 2g was jailbroken and I had the Categories App installed. Here’s an important note for anybody that hasn’t gotten from a jailbroken iPhone to a non-jailbroken iPhone: make sure to remove your categories and place your apps back on the main Springboard before updating your iPhone.
I’m an avid iPhone user and with iPhone OS 3.0 around the corner, it’s going to be an even more awesome phone. In the mean time I’ve relied on jailbreaking my iPhone to provide with those much needed missing features (video, search, background apps, copy/paste, etc).
